Have some Cinco de Mayo fiesta fun at Downtown Disneyland

Tortilla Jo's

Two restaurants in Downtown Disney will be whipping up some fiesta-style food to celebrate Cinco de Mayo at Disneyland Resort. In honor of this Mexican-American tradition, Tortilla Jo’s and House of Blues are offering limited time dishes from May 1 until May 5.

Crossroads at House of Blues has a “Menu Especial,” that features street-style tacos and a chorizo burger. The tacos will have two choices of meat – blackened chicken or fish. The burger option is chorizo, which is a spicy Mexican pork blend, topped with lettuce, avocado, and crowned with an egg. There’s also dessert available as well. Strawberry empanadas are filled with cinnamon cream and sprinkled with powdered sugar. To really get the fiesta started, they have a special Don Julio Margarita offering also.

On the actual day of Cinco de Mayo (May 5), Tortilla Jo’s is unleashing a full arsenal of Mexican menu items. It all starts with either Ensalada Badera and Camarones Agua Chile. The salad is a mixture of iceberg lettuce wedges, tomato, onion, bacon, hardboiled eggs and dressed in ranch. The Camarones Agua Chile is essentially a Mexican-style shrimp cocktail. It comes with a blend of red onion, cilantro, red bell peppers, and avocado. For the main courses, there is a choice Tricolor Dorado Filete (fish) or Pollo Adobado (chicken). The fish entrée is Mahi-Mahi pan seared with onions, capers, olives, oregano and a white wine broth. It’s served on a mess of red and green bell peppers. If you’re not in the mood for seafood, there’s the Pollo Adobado. This is grilled thigh meat marinated with dried chiles, oregano and vinegar. It’s served with red rice and frijoles churros. For dessert, check out their Gelatina de Tres Leche. This sweet delight is a milk-based custard and comes in red, white and green – the colors of Mexico’s flag.

Tortilla Jo’s will also feature a trifecta of alcoholic beverages to celebrate as well. It begins with Blanco Traditional, which is made with Don Weber Blanco tequila and lime juice. Then there’s the Margarita de Raspberry Rojo that consists of Patron Reposado tequila, raspberries, lime juice, and a splash of Cointreau. The final drink is a Green Melon Margarita made with Cuervo Tradicional Blanco tequila, fresh lime juice and a float of Melon Liqueur.

All this food and drink will surely liven up any fiesta. So, if you happen to be at Disneyland Resort for Cinco de Mayo, be sure to stop by either House of Blues or Tortilla Jo’s and get your party started right. ¡Olé!
