Smokejumpers Grill set to replace Taste Pilots’ Grill in DCA on March 20

In Summer 2015, the area formerly known as Condor Flats will officially become Grizzly Peak Airfield in Disney California Adventure park. Gone is the desert-themed, nostalgic tribute to the early years of commercial flight and aerospace. The area will now become part of the Grizzly Peak section. For those who’ve seen Disney’s Planes: Fire and Rescue, this area might look very familiar. It seems the only thing missing is Dusty Crophopper and the rest of his airplane gang.

Along with this change will be the transformation of Taste Pilots’ Grill into Smokejumpers Grill. The new establishment will feature a menu different than its predecessor… in name only from what it seems. The three dishes mentioned in the Disney Parks Blog are the Bacon Cheddar Burger, Grilled Chicken & Jack Sandwich and Chili Cheeseburger. These “new” choices sound almost exactly like the menu of Taste Pilots’ Grill (Blue Cheese and Bacon Burger, Grilled Chicken Sandwich with Jack Cheese, and Chili Cheeseburger).

This is not necessarily a negative. The food was not bad and, in fact, the Blue Cheese and Bacon Burger was a favorite of many.  People in the online community have expressed hope that Disney will retain the produce bar where you can customize your sandwich the way you desire.  It is the one thing that really set Taste Pilots’ Grill apart from the other burger joints at Disneyland Resort.

The official “launch” date of Smokejumpers Grill is March 20th (pun intended). Hopefully more items will be unveiled when they begin operations. Personally I want them to bring back the Rocket Ribs (or whatever they wish to call them). In my opinion, these were the best BBQ ribs served at Disneyland Resort. Unfortunately, they were removed from the menu in early 2013. A dream is a wish your heart makes. So, I wish for some smoked BBQ ribs and hoping my dream comes true!
