Barista Bootcamp at Lickety Split in Four Seasons Orlando
Barista Bootcamp at Lickety Split is part of the culinary events being offered at Four Seasons Orlando. It’s just one of the events being offered at the luxury resort. The Barista Bootcamp took place in December and we were lucky enough to attend the media preview event. Take a look a what we experienced!
The class was taught by Allison Burkard, manager of Lickety Split. She learned all about making coffee at the headquarters for Caffee Umbrai.
Caffe Umbria, a Seattle based Italian Coffee Roaster, is the company that supplies Lickety Split with coffee. They use up to 15 different varieties from Central America, South America and Africa. Of these 15, Lickety Split uses six different blends. Guests can enjoy Arco Estruco, Terra Sana, Bizzarri, Gusto Crema, Mezzanotte, and Single Origin Bean, currently from Colombia.
There are different ways to brew coffee. One of them is cold-brew and it takes 8 hours, but it makes delicious coffee. Since it takes so long to brew there is only a limited amount available, so if you’re wanting some of this coffee… you need to be an early bird.
If you don’t like coffee because it takes bitter or burnt? Well, then it hasn’t properly been made. Coffee that is made at the right temperature, with the right grind, doesn’t taste bitter.
Burkard taught us about how to make single drip coffee, Lickety Split’s signature cold brew, make espresso and cappuccino, decorate our coffees holiday style and much more.
We learned how to properly make espresso. Many people think that it’s a bean or grind, but actually, it’s the process in which it’s brewed.
To make cappuccino, you need steamed milk. We learned the proper way to steam milk so that it was thick and silky, instead of being a dry foam.
Since it was the holiday season, we learned how to make trees and snowman in our cappuccinos. It’s a cute way to decorate drinks for holiday parties. As you can tell, my Christmas tree was not so perfect.
At the end of the culinary event we had the chance to make our own boozy floats. There was plenty to choose from – candy canes, dark chocolate shaving, rainbow chocolate curls, marshmallows, Oreos, and whipped cream.
I decided to leave the booze out of mine and added marshmallows, whipped cream, Oreos, and chocolate shavings. It was awesome!
