Review: Disney Parks Blog Summer BBQ
Summer is here and Disney Parks Blog kicked it off with a bang hosting a BBQ for 300 of its readers. If you follow Disney Parks Blog on Twitter, Facebook, or subscribe to their blog, then you know about these awesome meetups that you can either sign up for, enter a raffle to attend, or are for Annual Passholders only. But they do fill up rather quickly. This Disney Parks Blog Summer BBQÂ reached capacity in under 5 minutes. Luckily I signed up just in time to get in invite and was able to bring one guest.
I’ve been to many Disney Parks Blog events but none quite like this. This event included a 1-Day park ticket to Disneyland for that day, an All-You-Can-Eat BBQ, entertainment provided by Miss Chris and her 3 piece band, games for the kids, face painting, Disneyland artists drawing your favorite Disney character, caricature, and name with your character style, and cowboy magician, and of course Mickey and Minnie. But wait, their’s more. each guest received a raffle ticket, an acrylic mason jar Disneyland Resort cup with candy inside as a thank you gift, a Fastpass for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, a time slot only for Disney Parks Blog guest to visit Captain America, and a priority viewing for the “Magical” fireworks show later that night. Unbelievable!
The event was held in the Big Country Jamboree Banquet area behind Thunder Mountain and the petting zoo in Frontierland. Once inside approached a line of buffet tables. Our BBQ menu was simple with just a couple item, some of which you can get at Big Thunder Ranch BBQ which is right next door. Our menu was decided by our host and Disneyland Resort Social Media Director, Erin Glover who grew up in the Midwest which the menu was inspired from.
Please do not eat your computer or device. I am not responsible for bite marks. Our menu included sauted green beans and cauliflower, sweet coleslaw and a macaroni salad, roasted red potato wedges with onions and seasonings which were quite tasty and flavorful, oven cook sliced beef sitting in a tangy BBQ sauce with bread rolls on the side to make a BBQ beef sandwich, and roasted BBQ chicken with green onions. I wasn’t to happy with the BBQ beef as the meat had an over cooked crumble texture but the sauce made up for it. As for the chicken? I’ve ever had chicken so moist and juicy that shreds in your mouth the way it did. A definite winner in my book.
And for dessert they offered mini apple or cherry pies, and a slice of chocolate cheesecake brownies.
