Review: Swan and Dolphin Food and Wine Classic 2017
One of our favorite events to attend took place this past weekend at Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort – Swan and Dolphin Food and Wine Classic. This was the 8th year of this delicious event.
The seminars take place in the Swan Resort and the event takes place along the causeway between the two resorts. Unfortunately, the weather called for rain (and it did rain) so the event was moved inside the Dolphin convention center.
There were 45 beverage locations plus The Bubble Lounge (which we were never able to located) and Beer Garden, and 12 food locations including Beer Garden, Chinatown, and Carnival Corner. With so much food and drink we of course couldn’t try everything, but we did get to try a lot.
One of our favorite stops was Carnival Corner. It’s fun and tasty. In addition to fun food, you can also play some carnival games. We tried the Mac & Cheese, Nitro Kettle Corn, Texas Style Corn Dog, and Funnel Cake. All of the Carnival menu items were great but the corn dog was our favorite. The breading was light, unlike most corn dogs.
Chinatown featured a duck bun and potsticker. It’s hard to go wrong with buns and potstickers.
A favorite of ours was from Todd English. It was his Brown Butter Maine Lobster Roll. There was nice large chunks of lobster and it was served on a buttered, lightly toasted bun.
Cabana Bar and Beach Club featured a Sweet Corn Risotto “Arancini” with Wild Chantrelle Mushrooms and Caper Emulsion. It was very good and the wild mushrooms added a nice contrast to the sweet corn.
We really enjoyed the Beer Garden. There were plenty of good beers to try and really delicious Jager Schnitzel. We discovered a really great beer from Hidden Springs Ale Works from Tampa, FL called Deja Moo. It’s a slightly sweet milk stout. If you like stouts, you must try this one. Whether you like ciders or not, you’ll love the Ciderboys Strawberry Magic. It is amazing!
You can never go wrong with trying any of Executive Pastry Chef Laurent Branlard’s creations. The desserts are always outstanding. Our favorite was the dark chocolate on a stick.
This has been one of our favorite events to attend. It might be a little more magical when it’s held outside, but rain or shine, the food and drink is always excellent. If you’ve never been we HIGHLY recommend checking it out next year.
