Disney pulls Epcot Starbucks mugs
Last week, Disney released “You Are Here” Starbucks mugs for Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure, Magic Kingdom and Epcot. However, Walt Disney World has just announced that it has pulled its Epcot Starbucks mugs from Fountain View.
The exclusive Starbucks mug sold at Epcot is being pulled because the design contains the monorail with a purple stripe. In 2009, Monorail Purple was involved in a deadly crash with Monorail pink, killing its pilot – Austin Wuennenberg. Monorail Purple and Pink where retired after the accident and replaced with Monorail Tea and Peach.
The “You Are Here” series of Starbucks mugs are found in cities around the world. They use a few colors and feature scenes and landmarks from the featured city. The Epcot mug uses shades of purple, blue and gray, and features Spaceship Earth, Soarin’, several countries from around the World Showcase and fireworks.
Speaking of Starbucks, there is still no word yet on where or when the Animal Kingdom location will open. If everything is still on track, we should see the Disney’s Hollywood Studios location opening sometime next month.

I think they did the right thing. I would love to have a whole set of these mugs!

I do believe they made the right call in honoring Austin. I’m surprised they didn’t catch it before the mugs went on the shelves. The mugs are a great idea. I know I would love to have them all at some point.
