New Disney Family Culinary Adventure teaches cooking secrets
Want to know how to make sushi, pasta, or baked goods? Now you can with Disney World’s new Disney Family Culinary Adventure that teaches cooking secrets, tips and tricks.
Staring on July 8, the new tour will be held at Disney’s Contemporary Resort and take guests backstage for an interactive learning experience. Guests will learn how to make a five-course dinner with beer and wine for guests 21 and up. The hands-on class will be taught at 5 pm by Disney chefs in a huge catering kitchen. Due to the size of the kitchen, only 30 guests can take part at one time.
Guests will be divided up into five cooking groups; be giving aprons, hats and gloves; and be put to working making one of the five dishes. Each group will have a different learning experience since each group will be making a different menu item for the dinner.
Five Stations:
- Garde manger: (French term for cold kitchen) Learn how to make farmer cheese, butter, and how to plate a gourmet salad on a rapidly moving electric belt.
- Sushi: Sushi chefs teach rolling sushi and sashimi. (This station may rotate.)
- Boucherie (Butcher): Learn how to trim a beef tenderloin for filet mignon.
- Pasta: Guests learn to make tender noodles (and not from a box)Â with fresh basil pesto.
- Patisserie (Bakery):Â Guests get to work with ingredients, such as chocolate, mousse, and other sweets.
When everyone is finished cooking, guests have a to talk with the chefs to learn about things you’ve always wanted to know about cooking. The prep work will take about one hour. Once complete, everyone will take a seat at a long table to enjoy their hard work. Lights are dimmed, music turned on and the meal will start with a toast. Guests who are 21 and up will be served wine and beer.
At the end of the meal, guests will get to see a molecular gastronomy demonstration, get to keep their chef’s hat and receive a a Disney cookbook signed by the chefs.
The price is 175 plus tax for guests 13 and up, 125 plus tax for ages 9 to 12. Younger guests may have their own cooking station. To reserve, call (407) WDW-PLAY. Vegetarian, vegan, and guests with allergies can enjoy the meal with special options. To make things easier for guests without cars, Disney is providing complimentary transportation.
