Pop Secret is now the official popcorn of Disneyland and Walt Disney World
News was announced in a press release yesterday that Pop Secret brand popcorn will be the official popcorn of both Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts. Pop Secret is owned by Diamond Foods, Inc. and has been making this particular product since 1984. They indicate the agreement is a “long-term strategic alliance” between the two companies.
There are a few other ancillary facts that are notable to Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resort guests. First, they will become the sponsor for the Fantasmic! Show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando. However, they did not specifically indicate if they would also provide sponsorship to Fantasmic! at Disneyland.
Secondly, they also plan to sponsor “movie nights” that will be held at several Disney resort hotels. No details were given as to which hotels this special event will occur and whether or not it will be inclusive of both Disneyland and Walt Disney World hotel properties.
The final item of concern is the nutritional changes. One of the great things about the buttered popcorn at Disneyland and Walt Disney World is that it’s vegan friendly. Diamond Foods, Inc. has provided no details regarding this aspect.
In terms of the other nutritional information, that’s to be determined as well. Pop Secret offers a variety of styles ranging from “Homestyle” to “Extra Butter.” It’s unknown what will actually be supplied to the parks. Perhaps they will create a custom popcorn just for Disney? Furthermore, what about the caramel popcorn at Disney California Adventure park? Are they going to continue providing both buttered and caramel versions? Time will tell.

I’ve had Disneyland passes for almost 15 years now and have enjoyed their Orville Redenbacher popcorn as treat throughout this time. I’ve never heard of any complaints so I don’t feel the change was due to guests asking for a new brand. Change can be good, especially if it’s for the better, but like I said, I was completely happy and enjoyed the popcorn and saw no need to change. Hopefully they won’t trade Coke for Pepsi anytime soon…then they’d have my full attention! (;
