2014 Epcot Food and Wine Festival – Puerto Rico booth
This year, at the 2014 Epcot Food and Wine Festival, the Puerto Rico booth takes center stage. Puerto Rico will not just be featured here but several of the culinary demonstrations in the Festival Center will highlight the cuisine of this island.
Stop and learn a little bit about this island that is part of the United States!
The menu features delicious food and drink from Puerto Rico. After a recent visit here, I do have to wonder why Bacardi isn’t on the list. This distillery is huge and has a rich history.
We decided to try the Ensalada de Carrucho, a Caribbean conch salad with onion, tomato and cilantro. The dish is gluten-free. It costs $4.25 and Disney Dining Plan snack credits can be used to purchase it. This was one of our favorite dishes. It’s fresh, light and reminiscent of ceviche. We didn’t try the Friturias: Sweet polenta fries and cheese fritter with mayo ketchup  ($3.50 and redeemable with the Disney Dining Plan) because we had already tried the dish at the Tables in Wonderland Preview Party. Just check out the review there.Â
For our beverage, we went with the Gasolina Sangriiia ($5.50). If you like fruity Sangria-style drinks, this one is worth a try. However, our favorite is the one over at the Mexico booth.
There is plenty of places to stand and eat away from the main walkway around the World Showcase. You’ll even find some of the crops and flowers that are native to Puerto Rico.
One of the towers has information on the agriculture of Puerto Rico. You can learn about coffee, pineapple, rum (shhh… don’t tell Capt. Jack Sparrow) and rice. There is even a recipe for Arroz con Gandules!
