California Grill’s new beverage program
Chef Brian Piasecki and general manager Michael Scheifler recently visited California in search of great wines to pair perfectly with the new California Grill menu.
Scheifler told Disney Parks Blog writer Pam Brandon that they visited more than 15 wineries in five days. What they have come back with is a zinfandel from an organic vineyard in Napa Valley and a chardonnay that will be bottled in magnums by Heitz Cellars. They chardonnay magnums will be exclusive to California Grill. When guests order this wine they will bring the magnum to the table to pour the glass.
Other changes include a new climate-controlled display case to show off 1,600 bottles of wine. Seventy two percent of the 250 wines will come from California. Guests will also be able to choose from 80 wines by the glass and sommeliers will be able to assist in pairing wines with meals. There will be more than 20 on staff! (This is exciting news. At Napa Rose in Disney’s Grand Californian Resort, all of the servers are sommeliers.)
There is also an expanded offering of sake to pair with the new sushi menu, including cask strength, light and sparkling. There will also be eight craft beers to choose from and most of them will come from California.
We should be seeing some of the menu updates soon so check back for those.
