Chopped Wood-Grilled Chicken Bowl Satu'li Canteen at Pandora - The World of Avatar at Disney's Animal Kingdom

Review: Satu’li Canteen and Pongu Pongu in Pandora

Recently, we attended the Walt Disney World Annual Passholder preview of Pandora – The World of Avatar. While there we made sure to check out the dining options. We drinks and snack at Pongu Pongu and a meal at Satu’li Canteen.

Pongu Pongu

Pongu Pongu is a small drink stand located near Satu’li Canteen. The menu consists of two frozen beverages – Night Blossom (non-alcoholic specialty beverage) and Mo’ara Margarita, two draft beers – Mo’ara High Country Ale and Hawkes’ Grog Ale, bottled water, and Pongu Lumpia (dessert spring roll).

Hawkes’ Grog Ale and Mo’ara Margarita

The Mo’ara Margarita (9.25) is made with Sauza Commemorativo Añejo with strawberry and blood orange topped with boba. If you like sweet cocktails, you’ll love this one. The boba is a nice addition to this drink.

Hawkes’ Grog Ale (9.50 for 22 oz.) is a fruity hop beer with hints of apricot and peach. We aren’t fans of IPAs because they’re just too hoppy for us. However, this beer wasn’t too hoppy. We expected it to be more based on its description but it wasn’t overpowering. The beer is green but it doesn’t appear to be that they are adding the color after the pour. It’s a light, flavorful beer. We’ll definitely be returning to get this beer again.

Pongu Lumpia (4.59) is pineapple cream cheese filled spring rolls. You get two rolls. They are one of the best desserts I’ve had at a stand or quick-service location in the parks. It was really delicious. It’s definitely sweet, but even those of us not big on desserts really enjoyed this. The spring roll itself was nice and crisp which was nice in contrast to the cream cheese and pineapple. It’s definitely something that we’d go back to eat again.

Satu’li Canteen

Atmosphere

Satu’li Canteen is the former mess hall of the RDA and now is a relaxing restaurant with Na’vi art and cultural items. It’s located near the exit of Avatar Flight of Passage’s gift shop.

There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Outside you’ll find the dining all covered, so no worries if it’s raining. The inside and outside dining areas are very earthy. You’ll find trees and beautiful pod-like lighting inside. Even the tables that are booths have branches covering the tops of the seating.

Where you order has a very futurist, space-like feel to it. There is a queue and a Cast Member will direct you to which register to place your order.

Menu

The menu is very limited. Guests can enjoy Asian bowls, steamed pods (bao buns), desserts, and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. There are some specialty drinks and beers that can only be found in Pandora.

The Create-Your-Own Satu’li Bowls give you a choice of protein (slow-roasted sliced grilled beef, chopped wood-grilled chicken, sustainable fish fillet or chili spiced crispy fried tofu), choice of base (quinoa & vegetable salad, red & sweet potato mash, mixed whole grains & rice, or romaine & kale salad), and choice of sauce (charred onion chimichurri, black bean vinaigrette or creamy herb dressing).

The kids’ meals include Asian bowls (Mickey Check Meals), Cheeseburger Steamed Pod, “Teylu” all-beef hot dog wrapped in dough and cheese quesadilla. The prices range from 6.49 – 8.49.

Food and Drink

Chopped Wood-Grilled Chicken Bowl

Chopped Wood-Grilled Chicken Bowl (11.49) served over whole grain and rice topped with creamy herb dressing. We decided to give this a try since we saw the chicken being wood-grilled as we walked in. We thought the best sauce for this would be the creamy herb dressing so we went with that. This dish is really good. The chicken has a great flavor from the wood and the creamy herb dressing compliments it nicely.

Slow-Roasted Sliced Grilled Beef Bowl

Slow-Roasted Sliced Grilled Beef Bowl (12.99) served over red and sweet potato, and topped with charred onion chimichurri sauce. The slow-roasted beef is cooked about medium-rare so if you like you’re beef well done, it’s best to skip the beef. The chimichurri sauce was a perfect accompaniment to the beef. The sweet potatoes were cooked nicely. This dish was really good. Both of the bowls had a nice amount of meat and you could share them if you weren’t starving.

Cheeseburger 'Pods' from Satu'li Canteen at Pandora - The World of Avatar at Disney's Animal Kingdom
Cheeseburger ‘Pods’

Cheeseburger ‘Pods’ (10.99) served with root vegetable chips. We were split on the pods. Some of us really enjoyed it and others just didn’t find the cheeseburger filling to be a good mix with the steamed bun. Some of us just like our Asian buns to be traditional. However, we do think this is a great dish to introduce kids to steamed buns if they are picky eaters. The veggie chips were awesome. If you Terra chips, you’ll love these.

Chocolate Cake from Satu'li Canteen at Pandora - The World of Avatar at Disney's Animal Kingdom
Chocolate Cake

Chocolate Cake (5.29) with a crunchy cookie layer, banana cream and goji berries. We really didn’t think of this as a chocolate cake. It’s more like a mousse than cake texture. It was delicious! We highly recommend giving this a try if you’re a chocolate lover.

Dreamwalker Sangria (9.50) – white sangria with a hint of Blue Curaçao. It was a light, refreshing sangria. The kind you like to drink on a hot day. It really didn’t have much flavor from the Blue Curaçao but it did make it pretty.

Overall, we really enjoyed both Pongu Pongu and Satu’li Canteen in Pandora. We’ll definitely be back to try the Vegetable Curry ‘Pods’ and other Asian bowls from Satu’li Canteen, and the other drinks at Pongu Pongu.

Have you tried Pongu Pongu or Satu’li Canteen in Pandora – The World of Avatar? We’d love to know what you thought of YOUR food and drink!
