Review: Vivoli il Gelato
On our recent trip to Disney Springs, we stopped in the recently opened Vivoli il Gelato. This little gelateria comes across the water to make a home in Disney World.
Ambiance
Vivoli il Gelato is located in The Landing part of Disney Springs. It sits between Raglan Road Irish Pub and Restaurant, and Tea Traders Cafe by Joffrey’s.
There are only three Vivoli il Gelato in the world. It originally opened in Firenze (Florence, Italy), then New York and now Disney Springs.
The shop is small with a counter to place your order and pay; the pastries, sandwiches and gelatos; and the counter were they make some of the menu items. Outside the shop are three green iron tables to sit and enjoy your food. Nearby there are also some benches, but if you are looking to have a place to sit your food, this is the only spot.
Menu
Vivoli il Gelato features gelato, sorbetto, sandwiches, biscottis and beverages. The menu focuses on fresh, all-natural, quality ingredients. Some of the items are even imported from Italy, such as their chocolate and hazelnuts.
The flavors available include peach, pear, Amarena cherry, coffee, peanut butter, Stracciatella, strawberry, lemon, chocolate, crema, raspberry, lime, salted caramel, pineapple, hazelnut, pistachio, coconut and orange. There are enough that you’ll want to get the larger size just to try more flavors. For those that enjoy a little bit of whipped cream and their cold sweet treats in a waffle cone bowl… there are three sundaes on the menu.
In addition to the great selection of gelato and sorbet, there is also paninis, tarts and biscotti to choose from on display. They had an assortment of four different biscotti, 3 tarts and 3 paninis. For $5, you get your choice of 6 biscotti.
Food
We have to admit that it wasn’t an easy decision on which menu items to try. There are so many flavors that sound appealing and other tasty treats to indulge in. We choose the six biscotti for $5, Sicilian Creamsicle and three scoops of gelato in a medium cup.
We tried a biscotti that was like a small chocolate chip cookie but harder. We also had what most Americans think of when they hear the word biscotti – the think cookie with slivered almonds in it. The cookie that had a layer of Nutella in it (was the managers favorite) so we ordered two of them. If you like Nutella… it’s a must get. Our favorite, as well as the Cast Members, the soft almond cookie. It was amazing! The cookie was really soft and the almond flavor was perfect. You could easily eat 12 of those!
The three flavors we chose were Amarena (black cherry), Burro d’Arachidi (peanut butter) and the rice cream (the manager’s favorite). Since the manager is from Italy we thought she couldn’t be wrong.
We really enjoyed all three! The rice cream is sweet and has a bit of a rice texture to it. If you like peanut butter (which we do) you can’t go wrong with it. Our favorite… Amarena. The black cherry was really nice – not too sweet, but just enough. We’re fans of those cherries. If you’ve ever had one of the Disney cocktails that come with very dark black cherries, you had this cherry.
For those who like more than a scoop of ice cream, then The Sicilian Creamsicle might be up your alley. The creamsicle was perfect… and the very first one that the Cast Member had made. The chocolate hazelnut was really nice. It was creamy and the chunks of nuts added a nice texture. The candied orange slices were fresh and not too sweet. Overall, it was a perfect dessert and worth the money (but a tad pricey). We just wish that the waffle cone bowl, which is made by hand, was a little bit crunchier.
Service
The service here was great. We asked plenty of questions and they were happy to answer and make suggestions. If you want to sample some of the flavors before you decide which one to have, they have smalls spoons that they’ll scoop a bit up for you to try.
Overall
We really enjoyed the gelato! The Cast Members were friendly and helpful, the gelato was fantastic… we couldn’t have asked for more.
